Rep. Lauren Boebert forces House vote to impeach Biden

Representative Lauren Boebert introduced articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden on Tuesday that will force a vote in the House of Representatives in the coming days.

The articles of impeachment being offered by Boebert, R-Colo., focus on the president’s handling of immigration and the U.S.-Mexico border, but come on the same day court documents revealed a plea deal for Hunter Biden over tax violations and a firearm. crime.

“President Biden’s dereliction of duty has resulted in the surrender of operational control of the border to the complete and utter control of foreign criminal cartels, endangering the lives of American citizens,” Boebert said on the House floor Tuesday.

Unlike other impeachment attempts, Boebert said she is using a procedural tactic that requires the House to hold a vote on the resolution.

“I am taking my articles of impeachment against Joe Biden to the House Floor in a privileged motion, which means every congressman must vote on holding Joe Biden accountable,” Boebert tweeted.

A spokesman for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., did not immediately respond to a request for comment about when Boebert’s resolution would be discussed.

House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark said in an email to colleagues Tuesday evening that the chamber “expects to hold a procedural vote on the motion to introduce the resolution when it is presented this week.”

Passing a motion to introduce the resolution would essentially block Boebert’s impeachment attempt.

The six pages deposition solution argues that Biden has abused his power and neglected his duty as president, leading an administration “that has continually, openly and consistently violated federal immigration law by pursuing an aggressive open-border agenda.”

Boebert, who tried to accuse Biden accuses the president in 2021 of “deliberately and knowingly” releasing millions of migrants in the United States “without intent or ability to cause them to appear in immigration court to face asylum or deportation proceedings .”

Reached for comment, White House spokesman Ian Sams said in a statement that “extreme House Republicans perform baseless political stunts that do nothing to help real people and serve only to draw attention to themselves. “

Congressional Republicans and some Democrats have criticized Biden for his handling of Southern border crossings, often resisting efforts to wind down a Trump-era policy known as Title 42, which was lifted last month.

The Biden administration has defended its border policy, arguing in a recent lawsuit that its actions have reduced the number of migrants allowed to seek asylum at the southern border by allowing migrants to be screened for asylum if only they can prove that they have previously tried to apply for jobs in countries they have passed through or their cases are exceptions to the rule.

According to Customs and Border Protection, border crossings have dropped from more than 10,000 a day to about 3,500 a day since Title 42 ended.

Republicans have previously filed articles of impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, but those measures have not come to a vote.

In May, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., filed an impeachment bid against Biden over the administration’s handling of migrant border crossings, but the resolution did not require a vote on the floor like Boebert’s will.

Boebert’s procedural tactics were used last week by GOP Rep. Florida’s Anna Paulina Luna in a bid to win Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California to censor and fine. Democrats, along with nearly two dozen Republicans, blocked that measure in a floor vote.

Luna told NBC News on Tuesday that a separate measure to censure Schiff without fining him will be voted on Wednesday night, adding that she has received the number of GOP votes necessary for it to pass.
